The Renaissance Project Animal Rescue, Inc., is a small, all volunteer,
501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to giving “new
lives” to NYC’s homeless and abandoned cats and dogs.
Founded in the spring of 2003, The Renaissance Project, in conjunction
with The Beasty Feast pet store, has successfully found homes for
many, many cats and dogs. Our mission is to provide quality, loving,
permanent homes for these precious lives through our careful, thoughtful
and thorough adoption process. The majority of the pets we rescue
come from New York City’s municipal animal control facility
(“New York City Animal Care and Control or NYCACC”),
while others have been rescued after having been abandoned within
the neighborhood. Like The Beasty Feast itself, The Renaissance
Project is very much neighborhood oriented in that we prefer to
place our cats and dogs in homes within The West Village area.
We are also a member of The Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s
Animals, Inc. who is working with the City of New York toward the
day when no New York City dog or cat of reasonable health and temperament
is killed merely because he or she does not have a home.
The Renaissance Project has very low overhead and the space that
The Beasty Feast’s Washington Street location graciously provides
allows us to use all contributions to go directly to the care of
the animals. Additionally, the staff at The Beasty Feast has been
enormously supportive and helpful in providing the day-to-day care
these animals require to transition from shelter or street life
into a home.
Each animal we rescue is taken to one of our participating veterinarians
for blood tests, vaccines, spaying or neutering and parasitic care.
Of course, sick or injured animals are treated as well. The cost
of preparing a healthy pet for adoption usually averages between
$150 to $250. The average adoption donation is $100. We continue
to be solely dependent on donations from animal lovers to make up
the difference.
